Wendy Greuel, City Council-member from District #2 brought SNB to Principal Ms. Angela Cleveland's Rockin' Jack London High in Van Nuys. .. Congratulations to Matthew Cortes, harmonica winner.

Thanks to the Swanton Foundation, the concert and clinic at Stoney Point High School was a huge success. Gilbert Sanchez and Sergio Padilla played bass, Hector Costa and Sergio played drums, and Fabiola Armenta and Principal Padgett sang the Doors' "Break On Through". Ann Bailey, Danielle Salmas and Karlyn won harmonicas. Special thanks to our sign-turners and teacher-road crew... you're an awesome school.

Eagle Tree High in Carson is a great school. Principal Jackie Ayala says that they are her best class. During the Saturday Night Bath event, Ann Bailey won a harmonica and had extraordinary memory and listening skills. Desire Flores and Justine Jones were excellent sign-turners. Gilbert and Hector showed much ability, playing bass and drums, respectively. We hope they will enroll at Harbor College.

The sixth and final DCA event was a return visit to Moneta High in Gardena. The students, teachers, and Principal Mr. Tony Morreale were so animated and involved, just as in past visits. Izea Williams, Malik Artou, Cyrus Reddix, and Andrea Bossier represented.

Another City of LA Cultural Affairs Department phenomenon occurred at Cooper High in San Pedro. Trinity, Jeanette Palomera, Karneisha Wilson, Richard Warlock, Keath Brown, Roxanne Ware, and Romar Hagan were all harmonica winners. Thanks Lisa for tight sign duties!

Wow, what a happening occurred at Thoreau High today. Thank you LA County Arts Commission for your support! Brandon Anastascio, Amanda Weiss, and Sylvia Medina won harps. Brandon Palaelo, played guitar and Willie Gordon played drums with the band. Great job to dancers Abby and Sheri, and Roadie/gaffer Angel Torres.

Super-sharp students attend Avalon High School, including harmonica winners Laura Alvarez and Antonio Bazan. Special thanks go to our sign holders, and Emmanuel Diaz, Francisco Ayala, and Carlos, our road crew. Francisco took an extended drum lesson and received a Method book.

Highland Park High School was really sharp. Phillip Hadley, Richard Salazar, Peter Nuñez, Jane Lorenzo, Andrea Quesada, Miguel Morales, Benji Ramirez, and Teacher Mr. Upshaw all won harmonicas with their musical knowledge. Awesome job HP and Principal Ms. Iwamoto.

The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs has supported bringing our program to LA for 18 years, and Youth Opportunities Unlimited High School is a shining example of our success. Principal Mike Smalley, his staff, his 250 terrific students, and especially Ms. Shantae Weathers who won a harmonica, are an inspiration to us.

Metal lives! The concert and clinic event at Moneta Continuation High on December 8th was phenomenal. Not only did Marco show great improvement on guitar over the last year, Eli Peña showed amazing talent, playing 2 songs on drums and another on guitar. Principal Tony Morreale and the staff are so dedicated and this is evident in all of the student’s wonderful attitudes. Thank you again Supervisor Knabe and Deputy Ms. Carla Yorke for your generous grant.

Walt Whitman High has a new Principal, Ms. Karen Cheval. She is extremely “tuned-in”, and the students in-turn, are as well. Dora Navarrete won a harmonica. A special thanks to the superb road crew. The Boeing Company and The Recording Industries Music Performance Fund again sponsored the event.

The concert at Kirk Douglas was tight. Pita (of our new 2006 brochure fame) and Maria Vargas, Polette Lujan, and Jesus Luna won harmonicas. Pita's drumming has really improved since December! Vanessa held up our instrument signs. Teacher Mrs. Johnson danced. The 3-dozen questionnaires immediately returned were very informative and showed varied and extensive understanding.

A big shout out to Kirk Douglas High. They have a wonderful Music Department led by Ms. Gail Bluestein and Principal Ms. Constance Dunn. Pita Vargas and Cody Nelson played two songs with SNB on guitar and bass respectively. Reporter Sasha Bezman, as well as Maria Vargas, Christian Perez, and Rafael Infante all won harps.

Moneta High in Gardena has many talented students. Marcos Rodriguez played guitar with SNB for 45 minutes! There was also musician/rapper Diondre Jackson, harmonica winners Karina Lopez, Monica Ruiz, Dominique Brewer, and Emilio Vaughn. Drummer Jeoffrey Williams took a lesson and got a method book. Thank you D’Addario Foundation for the Performing Arts (Strings) so much for two co-sponsorships.

The concert at Del Rey High School in Westchester today went very well today. Kentrell Wright played drums and got an Ed Hunton “Funkasizes” method book. Harmonica winners Michael Perry remembered 10 things and Caleb Ashman won for extraordinary Road Manager duties. Thanks to DeAnthony Watson for holding signs.

At Cooper Alternative High School we received our best reception of the 6 years that we have been going there. Victor and Aaron took a drum lesson. Anisha Irvin and Kenneth McIntire won harmonicas. And a special thank you to the serious road crew of Jonathon Williams, Raymond Gibbs, and Jeremy Malone.

275 awesome students and staff work at Youth Opportunities Unlimited High in Los Angeles. Ms. Harris sang and danced 10 funky "Happy Birthday" choruses to Garfield Johnson. He played electric Dobro with the band, and then finished up by succeeding Oscar Osuna and Edgar Cervantes in moving our equipment. They all won harmonicas as did Alisa McGregor! Kudos to this wonderful school.

Highland Park High School rocks! George Ruiz and Michael Asturias took bass viol and drum lessons, respectively. Edson Ramirez, Moises Avalino, Ashley Aragonez, Raul Sarmiento, Scott Vitug, Mark Barragan, Christopher Fonseca, Jonathon Arreaga, Greg Gutierrez, and Mario Sarabia all won harmonicas.

We talked to and were inspired by all of the students at Rogers High in Van Nuys. Hooray for La La Blackwell, Stephanie Ramirez, and Brenda Romero, who won harmonicas. Special shout out to Vanessa and Angel for carrying equipment.

Congratulations to all of the Jack London High School graduates. José Izaparte and Michael Love did serious raps. They also won harmonicas along with Illyana Camacho, Tom DaVinci, Jasmine Joyner, Gregory Owens, and Ben Michaels. Jasmine took a drum lesson and got a method book.

The concert and clinic for the Ramona Alternative High girls was extraordinary. Afterward Janet Figueroa and Abigail Duarte played guitar and drums respectively for 45 minutes with the band. They both won harmonicas, along with Liliana Camacho, Natalie Mukul, Susan Martinez, and Ivonne Saucedo. Jasmine Carrington is very talented as well; she also won a harp and took an extended bass lesson.

What a great day today. Metropolitan High School in Los Angeles is incredibly talented. Special shout outs - Billy Ortez accompanying SNB for an hour playing excellent "section-Trombone", along with Teachers Mr. Lupé on Congas and Mr. W. on Guitar. Some of the 5 drummers who got books were Karla Osuna, Fabian Angulo, Rocky Trejos, and John Andrino. Fabian and Rene Lopez took Bass lessons. Other celebrities include harmonica winners Karla, Noela Sotelo, Guadalupe Sorrano, Janet Bell, and Richie Avalos.

The Southeast Middle School program today was awesome. Their "A-Team Band" band played so well on 3 selections, and Director Mr. Alvin McKinney wailed on alto sax on two with SNB yet again for our 4th time in 6 years (before at Markham Middle)! Thanks Recording Industries Music Performance Fund in NY, and Harold R. Swanton & Winifred R. Swanton Foundation here in Beverly Hills. Besides the SEMS A-Team Band with whom we had extensive discussions over the 6-hour duration about a baton or the fretless electric bass guitar with a wah-wah pedal, here is a special shout out to all of the bass viol students and harmonica winners – Eric Ibarra, Kimberly Gracian, Andy Alferez, Phillipe Romes, Martin Delgado, Jordy Cota, Gilbert Padilla, Jadira Martinez, Jonathon Trujillo, and Peter Martinez. Congratulations again, you were all great.

Our first visit to North High in Torrance has inspired us as mentors, particularly students Ashley Wall, and Patricia Galaz. And, for the first time, famous LA drummer Ed Hunton performed the gig and the clinics using his funky method book that we have donated to students for the last 4 years.

Representing Pueblo de Los Angeles High School in East LA is Natalie Flores, who won a harmonica and took a guitar lesson, and she and Brenda Hernandez took a drum lesson. Claudia Alvarado and Jovani Perez took bass viol lessons and hope to study at Cal State LA. Special thanks to the expert road crew Juan, Luis and all of the others. We think Principal Bill Lupejkis and the entire student body are brilliant.

An extraordinary graduation event happened at Stoney Point High in Chatsworth on June 16th. Principal Padgett played guitar and sang with SNB as did student Ray De La O and his composer/singer-partner. Accolades to drum students Cristal Manning and Andrew Tri, harmonica winners Andrew, Nancy Lopez, and Julian Jarparo, and to the most graduates ever: Ray, Sanjana Baldwin, Joey Cabrera, Mike Scott Cherney, Nahyan, Ershad, Hugo Sanchez-Garcia, Alison Karen Insaurralde, Bryan Judas Insaurralde, Alfonso Martinez, Vanessa Mata, Jensy Olazaba, José Alejandro Peralta, Gabriela Santana-Ramos, Labib Tawfik, and Jessica Anne Tirona.

Thanks #2 to CA Arts Council. SNB was blown away by the Mt. Lukens High School (Tujunga, CA) musical stars! Lessons were given to Ashley Rivers - bass and drums, Jonathon Garcia and Crystal Berger - keyboard, David Hernandez - guitar and rap, and Bryan Peterson - drums and rap. Ashley, Jennifer Moreno, and Amy Leckliter won harmonicas... very cool.

Thank you CA Arts Council. You helped SNB to celebrate the Eagle Tree High School (Carson CA) Class of 2004 graduates with music! Aleanna Campbell and Jonathan Shaw (J Macc) sang Marvin Gaye songs with the band. Elvis Espinoza did a great rap. He, Jeremy Malone and Vanessa Gonzalez won harmonicas by memorizing 10 music tenets. Congratulations to graduates Encka Cotton, Felipe Phipps, Sam Wright, Graciela Antimo, Lorianne Lim, Michelle Hill, Abi Arambula, Leo Galarza, Will Moseley, Charles McCowan, Karla Valdez, and Gus Cortes.
